Prime Minister of Kosovo in acting capacity, Albin Kurti, said there is no new situation, only repeated elections. This is how he described his expectations for the early elections on June 7, where among other things he said that “the more dams are placed in our way, the stronger the flow becomes.”
The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, told the media on Thursday that June 7 will surpass the result of December 28. While speaking about the cooperation between former president Vjosa Osmani and the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, in these elections, he said that “people have desires, but desires should not be confused with facts.”
“Everyone who has political ambitions, who wants power, who has a vision and ideas for the good of citizens should engage, should work with what they know and can do, and I wish them success. But you must keep in mind that this is not decided by any party leader, nor by any candidate for any position. It is decided by the people. And do not forget how the people decided four months ago, in the December 28 elections, where 51.1 percent, not 50 percent but 51, not 51, but 51.1 percent gave it to the Vetëvendosje Movement, whereby we came very close to the figure of 500,000 votes, or 500,000 hearts as we say. And just look at the concrete result. Vetëvendosje Movement 57 deputies, while LDK, PDK, and AAK together have 43 deputies. So those three together have 43 deputies, while LVV with the Guxo Party, Alternativa, and PSD has 57 deputies. So we are not comparing two parties, but the entire opposition has 43 deputies and Vetëvendosje has 57 deputies, plus we also have nine deputies from non-majority communities, making a total of 66. Therefore, people have desires, which is normal, but desires should not be confused with facts,” Kurti added.Regarding the result he expects on Sunday, June 7, Kurti said that “the more dams are placed in our way, the stronger the flow becomes.”
“I believe that the citizens of the Republic have understood that every time you try to put a dam on a socio-historical and political current such as the Vetëvendosje Movement, then there will always be an even stronger flow. The more dams are placed in our way, the stronger the flow becomes. And exactly how strong it will be, we will find out on the evening of June 7,” Kurti concluded. He made these statements during the start of works for the reconstruction of the Kijevë–Malishevë road.Kosovo will hold early parliamentary elections on June 7 as a result of the failure to elect a new president by April 28, which was the constitutional deadline to do so. Sunday’s voting is the third nationwide election since February 2025. /Sh. Pajaziti
