The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEC) announced on Friday the tender for phase I of the capital project "Rehabilitation and Modernization of Unit A3 at the Kosovo A Power Plant". This project aims to increase the production capacity and influence the environmental improvement of Unit A3.

The country's Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, was present at this event, who stated that through this investment, the energy supply will be significantly increased and the annual production will also be doubled.

He emphasized that after the rehabilitation and modernization, it is intended that the capacity of A3 will reach 215 megawatts from around 100 to 140, which is currently the case.

“Since it entered into operation in 1970, Block A3 has not stopped production, except for overhauls and necessary care for production capacity. Today we mark the beginning of an extraordinary care project for the Kosovo A power plant, the rehabilitation and modernization of Block A3, as well as the redefinition of KEC's purpose for the future that awaits us. The A3 rehabilitation and modernization project serves this strategy by addressing every part of the energy dilemma. This investment aims to increase production capacity and improve the environmental efficiency of the A3 unit, which currently produces a significant portion of electricity in our Republic. The benefits will be multiple. We are extending the life of Block A3 for 20 years, or 150 thousand working hours. We are increasing the capacity, which today is around 100 to 140 megawatts, after the rehabilitation and modernization, we aim for the capacity of A3 to reach 215 megawatts," said Kurti.
