Kurti does not say why he changed his mind about the Washington Agreement
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has refused to comment on his statement on the Washington Agreement, given to the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo”, which he said promoted stability.
After paying homage to academic Minir Dushi, Kurti was asked by a KosovaPress journalist what prompted him to change his mind about the Washington Agreement, but he did not state.
“Kosova maintains a strong bilateral relationship with the United States, based on their continued commitment to our sovereignty and integration into the EU and NATO. During Trump’s mandate, economic agreements between Kosovo and Serbia were prioritized to promote stability, while the Biden administration has strengthened democratic institutions in the Balkans. Although these differences reflect changes in approach, I do not believe that the United States will change its stance on Kosovo; we work closely with Washington”, Kurti told the Spanish newspaper on Tuesday, KosovaPress reports.
Kurti, along with his party, the Vetevendosje Movement, had criticized the agreement reached on September 4, 2020 at the White House, signed between then-Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and US President Donald Trump.
