Kurti calls on the municipalities for cooperation in the population census
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, called for joint commitment in carrying out the population census process, which includes the questionnaire on the damages from the 1998-1999 war in the family economies of our people.
In the meeting invited by the Ministry of Local Government Administration with the mayors of the municipalities, Kurti assessed that it is essential to join forces with a common goal for the institutionalization, protection and preservation of collective memory, which, according to him, will also serve the generations that will come after us.
The Minister of Administration and Local Government, Elbert Krasniqi, also considers population registration as an important and vital process.
Meanwhile, the director of the Institute for Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo (ICCK), Atdhe Hetemi, said that he expects concrete steps to be taken that lead to the collection of all existing materials from the municipalities of Kosovo in the archives of the Institute for Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo.
Minister Krasniqi said that the information provided by the population census is essential for effective governance, distribution of resources and policy-making.
He considered that this process is the cornerstone of modern governance and social development, because according to him, accurately recording demographic information will protect public safety and protect human rights.
The director of the Institute for Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo, Atdhe Hetemi, said that concrete steps should be taken that lead to the collection of all existing materials from the municipalities of Kosovo in the archives of this institute.
He said that through accurate and detailed documentation of war crimes and their consequences, a strong foundation for a future of lasting peace will be built.
Meanwhile, the director of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), Avni Kastrati, called on the municipalities to support and contribute to the population census, helping the enumerators in the field in terms of logistics.
He emphasized that the population census will be conducted in three European countries this year, for which he added that this process will be challenging for some new enumerators who are participating for the first time in this project.
Meanwhile, the population census started today on April 5 and will last until May 17 of this year.
Unlike previous years, this year the interviews are done through electronic questionnaires and not only on paper as it were before.
