The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said on Wednesday that after more than 17 years, Kosovars living in Germany will no longer be registered as Serbian nationals. He urged all fellow citizens to correct their nationality registration in their documents, KosovaPress reports.
During the government cabinet meeting, Kurti stated that this news was made public yesterday by the Embassy of Kosovo in Germany.
"After more than 17 years, a solution has been reached with the relevant German authorities regarding the issue of registering Kosovo citizens. Many of you were unjustly forced to register as citizens of Serbia in German documentation, a situation that will no longer happen from today onwards. I want to express my deep gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, which has worked diligently to negotiate and secure this important and necessary change. Thanks to their commitment with the German Federal Chancellery and the relevant ministries, a directive has now been approved that ensures all Kosovo citizens will be registered only as citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,” he said.
The acting Prime Minister called on all fellow citizens to correct their nationality registration in their documents.
"This change has entered into force in all German states and in over 5,200 civil registry centers. Therefore, dear fellow citizens in Germany, we urge you to verify and, if necessary, correct the nationality registration in your documents," he added, according to KosovaPress.
During the government cabinet meeting, Kurti mentioned that during his mandate, the government has approved a total of 2,200 decisions, 319 of which were approvals of draft laws.
He began his address on Wednesday by paying tribute to the photojournalist Alban Bujari, who passed away recently. /Sh.Pajaziti
