The head of Kosovar diplomacy, Donika Gërvalla, and the deputy minister, Kreshnik Ahmeti, are in Strasbourg to hold meetings and coordinate actions with partners and allies, who are supporting Kosovo on the way to membership in this important international organization.
There is also a delegation of the Assembly of Kosovo, which is led by the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Saranda Bogujevci. Kosovo applied in May 2022 for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. Serbia is against Kosovo's membership in this organization.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo has said that Serbia's propaganda and campaign to prevent Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe is extremely outrageous and completely contradicts the agreements of the last year between Kosovo and Serbia."But we express our conviction that the member states of the Council of Europe will make their decision not based on this propaganda, but based on the criteria and principles on which the Council of Europe is built", reads the communiqué.
2/3 of the votes of the Assembly are needed to recommend to the Council of Ministers of CoE, the acceptance of Kosovo. After this vote, the last step for Kosovo's full membership in the Council of Europe will be the decision of the Ministerial Council on May 16.
