The Pediatrics Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK) has replaced damaged beds with new ones. UCCK announced that seven beds have been replaced so far, while another one is expected to be replaced during the day.
The replacement was carried out following a public complaint by a mother, Aulona Mehmeti, who published photos on social media showing the poor conditions in the Gastroenterology Ward of the Pediatrics Clinic, reports KosovaPress.
The published photos showed a blood-stained bed, unclean toilets, and a lack of basic hygiene conditions. The mother also stated that, after publishing the photos, she faced pressure from some nurses over reporting the conditions at the clinic.UCCK Director of Technical and Administrative Services, Fisnik Dobra, said that the replacement of beds is part of an infrastructure modernization contract signed by the Central Procurement Agency on June 10.
According to him, all UCCK clinics have been asked to report their needs for new beds and other medical inventory. He added that clinics are expected to submit their data on needs by Friday.“Several damaged beds have been replaced with new ones. This is only the beginning of a contract signed by the Central Procurement Agency on June 10 for infrastructure modernization, which includes the supply of medical inventory for clinics. We expect data from clinics by Friday this week regarding plans for new beds and other inventory. The contract includes 51 items. All data will be collected, structured, and supply requests will be prepared. I believe that supplies will be delivered within a short period of time. Seven beds have been replaced today, and another bed will be replaced during the day,” Dobra said.
Meanwhile, the director of the Pediatrics Clinic, Alije Keka-Sylaj, has refused to comment directly to KosovaPress for the past two days.
She said that she had submitted her report and statements to the UCCK Directorate. These measures were taken following public complaints from family members regarding damaged beds, blood-stained sheets, and a lack of hygienic conditions.
