The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) is facing financial difficulties due to a lack of budget, while the leadership of the institution has emphasized the need for an increase in funding and coverage of existing obligations.

At the meeting currently held by the KPC, the Director of the Secretariat of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Sami Istrefi, requested the possibility of flexibility in handling payments for commission secretaries in case the budget is increased, KosovaPress reports.

“We have adopted the budget circular for all expenditure categories of the KPC. However, if there is any movement regarding an increase in the budget, the council can, through a special decision, include the commission secretaries for payment from the time they are engaged or retroactively when the commissions are functional regarding the approval of this regulation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chair of the KPC, Arian Gashi, emphasized that the current financial situation poses a challenge for the KPC, adding that his goal is to find solutions to overcome these difficulties.

“We are in a situation where the council is financially strained due to the lack of budget, and I am not here to put the council in further difficulties, but to find ways to eliminate these challenges. This will be part of my mandate, as well as for all of us here, to make efforts to increase the budget. We do not determine the budget. I hope there will be an increase in the budget in every revision and decision made in the future, so that our current obligations, which unfortunately with this budget we carry over from the previous year, can also be covered. For any additional work, every official should receive extra payment,” he said.
