Kosovo Law Institute launches signature collection to amend Criminal Code
The Kosovo Law Institute has launched the collection of signatures today for amendments and supplements to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo, seeking to establish the deliberate failure to implement Constitutional Court decisions and the use of public funds for electoral gain as criminal offenses.
Naim Jakaj, a senior researcher at the Kosovo Law Institute, said that at least 10,000 signatures are required for the initiative to be processed by the Assembly.
“The Kosovo Law Institute is officially launching the collection of signatures for the civic legislative initiative to amend and supplement the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo. Through this initiative, we are proposing two concrete changes. First, we propose that the deliberate failure to implement decisions of the Constitutional Court be explicitly defined as a criminal offense. Second, we propose that the use of public funds for electoral gain during election and pre-election periods be defined as a criminal offense,” Jakaj said.
Recalling that citizens deserve social policies and state support, Jakaj said that these two proposals have a common goal.
The KLI researcher stressed that public money belongs to citizens and, as such, should serve them rather than party or electoral interests.
The collection of signatures will also take place in other cities, where citizens can sign from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
