Indictment against a Serb for war crimes against the civilian population

The Specialist Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo – SPOK, announces that it has filed an indictment in the Basic Court in Prishtina against a Serb for war crimes.

According to the Specialist Prosecutor's Office, there is a well-founded suspicion that the defendant D.M. former prison guard of Prishtina and Lipjan, during the period of the war in Kosovo 1998-1999, in Prishtina and Lipjan prison, in the capacity of an official and in collaboration with other prison officials, acting in opposition and violating the rules of international law during the time of war, namely the armed conflict, throughout this period of time they had systematically mistreated the Albanian prisoners, torturing them in an inhuman way with various means, actions sanctioned according to local laws, customs of war and the Geneva International Conventions and Additional Protocols.

"With these actions, the defendant D.M. in complicity, he committed the criminal offense of ‘War crimes against the civilian population’ from Article 142 in relation to Article 22 of the LP of the RSFJ", the communiqué states.

Also, the same person is accused of the criminal offense "Unauthorized ownership, control or possession of weapons", from article 366 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (CCRK).
