In what capacity was Obiliq Mayor Halil Thaci interviewed? Special Prosecution responds
The Mayor of Obiliq, Halil Thaci, was interviewed today by the Special Prosecution regarding expropriations in the village of Shipitullë.
In a statement, the Prosecution said that Thaci was interviewed as a defendant, under suspicion of committing the criminal offence of “exercising influence.”
“We can confirm that H.Th. was interviewed by the Special Prosecution as a defendant, as part of the investigative procedures being conducted by this prosecution in a case related to expropriations in the village of Shipitullë, under suspicion of committing the criminal offence of ‘exercising influence’,” the Prosecution said in a statement.
After the interview, Thaci told the media that the entire matter had been prepared by his political rivals and claimed that he appeared before the Prosecution as a witness.
Thaçi said he was “satisfied” that the Prosecution had started dealing with such an issue.
He added that he would not succumb to pressure and that, according to him, he would never be blackmailed or threatened, describing himself as a “defender of citizens’ rights.”
