The US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, repeated on Monday the request to the Government of Kosovo to postpone the decision to implement the regulation of the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK).

He made these statements after the meeting with the Prime Minister of the country, Albin Kurti, the Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi and the Minister of Finance Hekuran Murati, while he was accompanied by the ambassadors of the QUINT countries.

He said the US is concerned that the implementation of the CBK regulation will unfairly affect minority communities, referring to the ethnic Serb community.

The US ambassador said that his country requests the postponement of the implementation of this decision because according to him a plan and strategy should be developed in order to make the decision in question work.

Hovenier added that the United States of America supports the full implementation of the Constitution of Kosovo and respects the role of the CBK, but that the way this regulation is implemented does not take into account some of the concerns of the Serbian community.

Meanwhile, when asked if the Government of Kosovo has given any sign that it will change its decision and if Kosovo risks facing new sanctions, Hovenier said that it is up to the Government to declare for the implementation of the regulation.

As for whether the American government can take action against Kosovo, if it does not respond to this request, Hovenier said that "we hope that the government will be a partner with us", adding that if the opposite happens, this thing "will to have an impact on the quality of our partnership".
