Kosovo’s application for membership in the European Union should be addressed without further delays, and the country’s progress should be assessed based on merit, acting President Albulena Haxhiu said during a meeting with Riho Terras, the European Parliament’s standing rapporteur for Kosovo.

According to a press release, Haxhiu told Terras that Kosovo is not seeking an exemption from the criteria, but rather a fair process that would pave the way for obtaining candidate country status and the opening of accession negotiations, KosovaPress reports.

She thanked the MEP for his engagement and support for Kosovo’s European perspective.

“Acting President Haxhiu presented Kosovo’s progress in European reforms, the rule of law, and economic development, as well as close cooperation with European Union institutions,” the statement said.

It was also announced that Haxhiu highlighted that Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic orientation is clear, consistent, and enjoys broad public support.

The meeting also addressed the dialogue with Serbia, security issues, and the lack of accountability for the terrorist attack in Banjska. Haxhiu stressed that the European integration process should be based on the implementation of agreements and equal responsibility for all parties.
