The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, after a meeting with President Vjosa Osmani, spoke about the possible dates for holding elections. He said the options are April 5, 12 and 19, adding that his party does not have a preferred date. Meanwhile, he said he will not run for prime minister.

After the meeting, he also criticized the Vetëvendosje Movement, which refused to attend the meeting called by Osmani.

“A bad taste was left by the absence of Vetëvendosje and their governing partners; of course the Serbian List was also absent from the meeting. Their non-participation is incomprehensible. Even when we were in opposition and disagreed with many decisions of the president, the government and various situations, we still represented ourselves in meetings of political parties.

Their absence today, even if they had opposing views to confront and present at this meeting – which is the highest possible meeting of parliamentary political parties with the president of the country on such a sensitive issue – is a kind of insult to the country, to Kosovo and to the institutions.

Opposition party leaders have responded to Kurti’s invitations to meetings one by one, and there have often been consultations. His absence and that of those who did not attend today is not right,” Haradinaj said.

In front of the media, Haradinaj also described as an insult and mockery the announcement by LVV that they will send the president’s decree on the dissolution of the Assembly to the Constitutional Court.

“No one else is to blame for Vetëvendosje’s behavior and for what they have brought upon the country. The situation that has arisen is the result of their actions and they should have come to this meeting and expressed their views, even if they were opposing ones.

As for the dates, the options are April 5, 12 and 19; there may also be other dates depending on developments. We do not have a preferred date because we understand that we are now on autopilot – no one has competencies anymore except the Constitution, constitutional norms and deadlines – and we respect whichever date is chosen,” Haradinaj concluded.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, on Friday issued the decree dissolving the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, saying it came after MPs failed to elect a new president within the constitutional deadline.

Due to the lack of quorum, the Assembly last night failed to proceed with the vote for president, where the proposed candidates were Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollçaku Mulhaxha.
