Former Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Arben Gashi has expressed concern, as he put it, about the risk of a social confrontation if the president is elected without respecting the Constitution.

Gashi made these remarks on Tuesday in the Kosovo Assembly.

“The legal order and the Constitution in Kosovo are very clear. There is a decision of the Constitutional Court that addresses the quorum issue regarding the election of the president and states that two-thirds of all MPs must be present. Any attempt to bypass this constitutional rule is a violation of the Constitution and is a violent and unilateral act to change Kosovo’s constitutional order. We are going beyond what is reasonable, logic, and constitutional compliance; we are moving towards the use of force. I am convinced that we must stop this and must not allow ourselves to head toward a confrontation. Every conflict begins when one side consciously refuses to respect the established rules. The social and political confrontation that could occur is harmful and dangerous for Kosovo and we must prevent it... I don’t know, it is a matter for the Parliamentary Group,” he said.
