Four police officers suspended after triple murder in Gjilan

Four police officers were suspended on Monday, August 11, following the triple murder in Gjilan, the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK) announced. This institution said it had launched a preliminary investigation to determine whether there was any “negligence or possible involvement of any member of the Kosovo Police in the criminal activity of the suspect declared wanted for the triple murder in Gjilan.”

Based on the IPK’s recommendation, a police sergeant and an investigator from the regional investigations unit of the Regional Directorate in Gjilan, a police sergeant – head of investigations at the Novo Brdo Police Station, and a police officer engaged in the Rapid Response Unit of the Gjilan Regional Police Directorate have been suspended.

“The Kosovo Police Inspectorate, in coordination with the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution in Gjilan, is conducting preliminary criminal investigations against the above-mentioned individuals regarding suspicions of involvement in unlawful activities with elements of a criminal offense. The investigations are at an early stage and include the collection of material evidence, taking statements, and other procedural actions,” the IPK said in a statement to the media.

In a café near the Gjilan Municipality, father and son were killed on Sunday as a result of gunfire. Later, one of the seriously injured, who was being treated in hospital, also died. The Kosovo Police are searching for three suspects – Mefail Shkodra and his two sons, who remain at large.

The main suspect in the triple murder in Gjilan, Mefail Shkodra, is a person with a criminal record, including involvement in usury.
