Floods “submerge” areas across Kosovo, authorities urged to wake up
The state must not “sleep,” but react immediately following the floods across the country.
This was essentially the message conveyed by civil emergency expert Tahir Ahmeti, after heavy rainfall caused serious flooding in many parts of Kosovo, paralyzing traffic, inundating bridges and roads, and directly endangering citizens’ lives and property, KosovaPress reports.
“In some areas, residents have been left isolated, and water has entered homes and critical infrastructure,” he wrote on Facebook. “Institutions must respond immediately, with maximum engagement on the ground, continuous monitoring of high-risk areas, and accurate public information. Urgent interventions in infrastructure are unavoidable.”
According to Ahmeti, as the situation in several regions has already reached emergency proportions, the establishment of emergency headquarters is essential to ensure institutional coordination, efficient resource management, and, above all, the protection of citizens’ lives and safety.
