Bedri Hamza, chairman and prime ministerial candidate of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has called on political parties to ensure that the election campaign is calm, democratic, mutually respectful, and in line with standards of free elections.
Hamza said that the authorities have a responsibility to guarantee fairness and equality in elections and to prevent the use of state resources for campaign purposes.
He called on the government to ensure that state resources and public money are not used with the aim of creating inequality in the electoral competition between political parties. At today’s press conference, the PDK leader also spoke about the party’s election program, which he described as concrete, measurable, and achievable.
“Our program has several pillars. Let me present today the first pillar of the PDK program for the June 7 elections. The first pillar is lower prices and taxes, higher wages and pensions, and support for businesses. The state of Kosovo cannot develop without a strong private sector. We must respect our enterprises because they work for themselves, employ people, pay wages, and pay taxes. Therefore, we must create a suitable and business-friendly environment for both local businesses and attracting foreign investment. We will take measures in fiscal policy and in the financial sector. VAT should be paid domestically, not at the border upon import of goods and other items, because this would ease the burden on businesses, increase their liquidity, and reduce operating costs by allowing them to pay after selling their goods and products. We will also take care of employees, and all those earning salaries up to 500 euros will be taxed at 0%. Those earning from 500 to 800 euros will be taxed at 8%, and only incomes above 800 euros will be taxed at 10%.”
