Cases of drug smuggling and telephone use are evident in Kosovo prisons. During the past year, five correctional officers have been arrested for abuse of office. They have helped convicts and detainees bring illegal equipment into correctional facilities. The treatment of persons with special needs and mental problems remains a challenge for the Correctional Service.
