The declaration of a state of emergency for waste management in the capital is considered unnecessary by ecologists. Meanwhile, the opposition in Pristina considers it a deliberate decision.
The director of the NGO “ECO Z”, Egzona Shala, emphasizes that not all actions have been exhausted before a state of emergency for waste management in the capital is declared.
According to her, the waste situation in the capital of Kosovo is uncontrollable, but it is not a situation that should be declared an emergency.“The city is in an uncontrollable situation, it is an unmanageable situation, and it is perhaps absurd to declare a state of emergency, because opportunities and alternatives are not being created. Waste collection is not only an alternative that the municipality relies on, but that better alternatives and situations can be created…..declaring a state of emergency without concrete fines, without concrete decisions, and without alternatives with plastic containers, we do not have such a situation that should create alarm among the population and other institutions, due to the management incompetence of an institution, such as the municipality of Pristina…A mayor cannot declare a state of emergency, because he cannot manage properly due to administrative processes”, says Shala.
The ecologist, Shala, considers that declaring a state of emergency at this time of elections is more of an opportunity for misuse.
