The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has announced that some areas of the monument, the Prizren Fortress, will be temporarily closed to visitors due to a potential risk to public safety.

According to the announcement, the decision was taken following professional assessments that identified a deteriorated condition in certain structures within the fortress. As a result, areas deemed dangerous will be marked and restricted until further notice.

The Ministry also stated that the use of the fortress spaces for activities by organizations, cultural initiatives, and independent artists is immediately suspended until safe conditions are established.

“This decision is in function of protecting cultural heritage and the safety of citizens,” the statement reads.

The authorities emphasized that the public will be informed in due time about any further developments, including possible timelines for the full reopening of this important historical monument.

The Ministry has called for understanding from citizens and stakeholders, underlining that the measure aims to preserve one of the country’s most valuable cultural heritage assets.

“We ask for the understanding of all citizens and stakeholders, emphasizing that this decision serves the preservation of one of our most important heritage monuments and the safety of visitors,” the statement concludes.
