Lahi Brahimaj, a former comrade-in-arms of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army who are being tried in The Hague, expects a fair and politically unbiased decision for them. He believes they will be acquitted and expects their return to Kosovo as soon as possible.

Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi have been in the detention center in The Hague since November 2020. The Specialist Prosecutor's Office charges them with alleged war crimes.

In a protracted court process, they are awaiting the end of the prosecution's case in the spring of this year.

Brahimaj: The comrades will be acquitted and will return to Kosovo

“I strongly believe that after reviewing the evidence provided by the prosecution, then by the defense, the Court will issue a fair decision, not influenced by politics, and I strongly believe that my comrades will be acquitted and very soon I believe that they will return to Kosovo…If you watch it, the broadcasts [of the hearings] are truncated, there are interruptions and it is difficult to give a real assessment. Often times one can give an opinion with emotion, until you have listened the whole part, with these interruptions it is difficult”, says Brahimaj who himself faced a trial at the Hague Tribunal, from which he was acquitted in 2012.
