NIPHK in a press release has announced the importance of vaccination against coronavirus and available vaccines against this disease, which has now hit the world for more than a year. To be approved for use with COVID-19 vaccines, they must meet the highest standards of safety and efficacy, as two types of AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines are now available in Kosovo. AstraZeneca vaccines use a harmless virus that carries coronavirus proteins to safely elicit an immune response and the vaccine is given in two doses 9-12 weeks apart between the two doses. Nucleic acid vaccines (Pfizer BioNTech mRNA) use genetically modified RNA to generate a protein that itself safely elicits an immune response, and the vaccine is given in two doses 3-4 weeks apart.
