The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo has expressed concern over the increasing use of one-off financial measures as a response to economic challenges and inflation in the country.

In a public statement, the American Chamber emphasized that support for vulnerable groups and maintaining purchasing power are important, but it assessed that temporary payments only provide short-term relief and do not address the structural problems of the economy.

According to the American Chamber, measures that mainly focus on stimulating consumption risk having a limited long-term impact, as a large portion of consumption in Kosovo translates into increased imports rather than domestic production.

The institution called for a shift in focus toward strategic investments in infrastructure, energy, digitalization, education, and workforce development, arguing that only by strengthening the private sector can sustainable economic growth be ensured.

The American Chamber reiterated that a more competitive private sector creates new jobs, contributes to gradual wage growth, and improves citizens’ living standards.
