The Government of Kosovo imposed new measures in an effort to stop the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19 which has increased the numbers of infected in the country to unprecedented records. The Kosovo Patients' Association and the Federation of Health Trade Unions in Kosovo accuse the executive of not being on duty and of sacrificing health for the economy, even delaying the tightening of measures. On August 17 there were 2110 new cases, while in total the number of active cases is 12,159. The President of the Kosovo Patients' Association, Besim Kodra, while calling the latest figures of COVID-19 infections scary, says that the situation with the pandemic is not well managed. According to him, the Government of Kosovo has made wrong steps by giving priority to the economy and not public health.
