Zemaj claims Kurti is on a blacklist for interfering with media independence

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Armend Zemaj reacted following Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s address regarding the media. He said that credible international organizations have placed Kurti on a blacklist for interfering with media independence. Zemaj also exchanged remarks with Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli over the increase in electricity prices.

During today’s address, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that reports about “financing with bags of money” are a direct threat to the integrity of public debate.

Zemaj also asked, “Where are Martin Berisha’s millions, whom did he finance?”

After discussions in the Assembly regarding electricity, Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli called the claims untrue. She said that last year’s price increase also occurred due to investments in KEK, which, according to her, had not been made for 40 years.

Zemaj again responded to Rizvanolli, saying that she “has a great difficulty” referring to his statements as untrue.

“It is regrettable when a minister comes out—or must have great difficulty—even to refer to a ‘deputy’ or labels statements as untrue. Madam Minister, Nagip Krasniqi was arrested in 2023 during your mandate. He still has an active indictment in a judicial process by the Special Prosecution for abuse of tenders, precisely those tenders we are talking about. What is untrue here? Can you deny that Martin Berisha withdrew millions and is under investigation? What is untrue—why do you defend a person who is under indictment and say it is untrue? What connects you to him? Do you bear responsibility? And then you come here and say that some untruths were stated,” Zemaj said.

Rizvanolli said that claims linking electricity trading companies with the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) are also unfounded.

“Individual issues that are being handled by the judiciary cannot be commented on by me. However, in this case, I want to clarify something that is often said and is not true, which is that Nagip Krasniqi is accused of stealing money. The damage alleged by the Prosecution in the case of the A5 unit contract relates to alleged lost profits that have not been proven, rather than theft. Given that this is an issue widely discussed publicly and the indictment and all information are public, I think it is important to be clear. Many untruths have been said and are often repeated regarding alleged links between the government, LVV, or any official and companies that trade electricity. There is no connection between companies that have traded electricity in recent years and officials of LVV or the government. These claims are completely unfounded,” she concluded.
