Works begin on the reconstruction of the Kijevë–Malishevë road

Works on the reconstruction of the regional road segment Kijevë–Malishevë have started, with a total value of 2.4 million euros and a length of over 11 kilometers.

The launch of the works was attended by the acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the acting Minister of Infrastructure Dimal Basha.

Kurti said that this road is of vital importance for the residents of the area, adding that it represents a significant investment.

“You are aware that there have been many efforts to stop and obstruct the mandate that the people gave us in the largest margin in post-war Kosovo, but we do not stop new works, good works, and certainly those that are beneficial for the citizens of the Republic. With the reconstruction of the Kijevë–Malishevë road, as the Government of Kosovo, we are making a very important investment for the residents of Malishevë and the wider Llapushë area and beyond. This road is over 11 kilometers long in total and is a key connection for Malishevë and five villages along this route. The project includes a complete reconstruction from the base to the final asphalt layer. Even before and after the war, this road has only been patched and maintained until the next damage, but now we are carrying out a full reconstruction of this very important road. The works that are starting include a segment of 8.5 kilometers, while for the remaining part we will proceed with procurement activities soon,” Kurti said.

He added that these are not pre-election actions, but rather the fulfillment of commitments from the 28 December elections.

The acting Prime Minister said that the contractor has informed him that the works will last over 200 days.

Meanwhile, the acting Minister of Infrastructure Dimal Basha announced that 2.4 million euros will be invested in this road.

“For decades, this road has been managed through maintenance. For the first time, with the support of the Prime Minister and the Kurti Government, we have completed the full project design and now the entire 11-kilometer road is being rehabilitated. The first segment of 8 kilometers is the first contract, and we are also in procedures for the second segment of the remaining 3 kilometers. As mentioned, the road will include sidewalks, new sidewalks will be installed where needed, atmospheric water drainage will be addressed, and it is also very important for the management and regulation of bus stops where citizens wait every day. So, it will be a full rehabilitation worth 2.4 million euros for all citizens,” he said.

He also pledged that work will begin on drafting the project for the road section from the highway exit to Banjë. The acting Minister of Infrastructure said he has also received support from Kurti for this, adding that the road is heavily damaged and needs rehabilitation.
