Vjosa Osmani will continue to hold the title of “President,” officially and by law, even after April 4, when her current mandate as head of state is expected to end—unless some “miracle” occurs that would keep her in office for another term.
The continuation of this status is guaranteed by the Law on the President of the Republic of Kosovo. More specifically, Article 18, paragraph 3 of this legal act.
“After the completion of the mandate for which he/she was elected, the title ‘President’ continues to apply to the President of the Republic whose mandate has ended in accordance with paragraph 1 of this article,” the provision states, as reported by KosovaPress.
In addition to this privilege, if she does not decide otherwise regarding her future, Osmani will also receive other privileges and benefits in her capacity as a former president. This includes a lifelong salary at 70 percent of the pay she received while in office.
She is also entitled to use a diplomatic passport for life, as is her spouse.
However, these benefits may be terminated if she—or any president who has completed their mandate—chooses otherwise.
“The President of the Republic of Kosovo, whose mandate has ended, may waive the rights granted by this law upon his/her request,” states Article 23 of the document. /KosovaPress
