Trial begins for the Banjska attack, members of the Special Unit testify

At the Special Department of the Basic Court in Pristina, the judicial review session has begun against three defendants for the terrorist attack in Banjska on September 24, 2023.

Today, members of the Special Unit will testify as witnesses—Alban Rashiti in the morning session, and Çlirim Shaqiri in the afternoon session.

Under heavy security measures, the defendants—Blagoje Spasojević, Vladimir Tolić, and Dušan Maksimović—were brought to the courtroom. They have been in custody since September 2023.

They were arrested following the attack in Banjska, in northern Kosovo, when an armed Serbian group attacked the Kosovo Police, resulting in the death of police officer Afrim Bunjaku.

In the initial hearing held on October 9, 2024, the defendants pleaded not guilty.

The Special Prosecution of Kosovo, on September 11 of last year, filed an indictment against Milan Radoičić and 44 others for the September 24, 2023 terrorist attack in Banjska, Zvečan.

The Basic Court in Pristina rejected a trial in absentia for the rest of the accused who remain at large.

The defendants are charged with using violence and heavy weaponry in an attempt to sever the northern part of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo and annex it to the Republic of Serbia. As a result of the violence used, police officer Afrim Bunjaku was killed, and the lives of other police officers and civilians were endangered.
