The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has reacted to the decision of the United States of America to indefinitely suspend the Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo, saying that this process, which was intended to strengthen our economic, political, diplomatic, and defense relations, has now been damaged.
According to PDK, this grave development is a direct consequence of the reckless and irresponsible actions of the outgoing Government and the outgoing Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
“His behavior has undermined the trust and partnership with our greatest and most important strategic ally, the USA — the country that has been and remains the biggest supporter of Kosovo’s freedom, independence, and state-building. This is the greatest political, diplomatic, and strategic damage caused to the Republic of Kosovo in the 25 years of its freedom, directly harming relations with our key ally and putting into question the international credibility of our state. For more than two decades, Kosovo’s relations with the USA have been indisputable, based on shared values of freedom, peace, and democracy. Today, because of a government that has chosen conflict over cooperation and populism over responsibility, these relations are being put at risk,” the PDK statement reads.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo reiterates that the relationship with the USA is a vital and national interest of Kosovo — incomparable and irreplaceable. We remain committed to preserving, strengthening, and expanding this partnership under all circumstances.
“The citizens of Kosovo know that wherever PDK has been in government, relations with the USA have always been consolidated and growing. Therefore, the damage caused to Kosovo by the outgoing Government must serve as a wake-up call for everyone: the partnership with the United States is not an ordinary political issue, but the foundation of our security, development, and future. The Democratic Party of Kosovo will continue to engage so that this partnership remains unbreakable and always serves the interests of the people of Kosovo. Kosovo belongs to its people, who built their freedom with the decisive support of the United States of America. Beyond the mistakes of a temporary government, the trust of the citizens of Kosovo in the friendship and partnership with the USA has been and will remain unbreakable, because this bond is stronger than any temporary political interest and is deeply rooted in our shared history and future,” the statement says.
Following the European Union sanctions and now the decision of the United States to suspend the Strategic Dialogue, it has become completely clear that the country is sliding in a dangerous direction due to an irresponsible government. This is the last moment for all pro-Western political forces, with state-building awareness, to unite and provide Kosovo with a responsible government that will return the country to the safe path of Euro-Atlantic integration — the permanent aspiration of the people of Kosovo.
