Today, the 49th attempt to constitute the ninth legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo also failed. The failure occurred due to the same issue as in previous attempts, the inability to establish the committee for secret ballot voting. Only 50 MPs voted in favor of establishing this committee.
The chairman of the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, Avni Dehari, emphasized that the continuation of the next session will be held on Monday at 11:00.
All previous continuations of the constitutive session have failed because the coalition composed of Vetëvendosje, Guxo, and Alternativa does not have enough votes to elect the new Speaker of the Assembly.
Albulena Haxhiu has failed in six attempts to secure the necessary votes through an open ballot, and the establishment of the committee for a secret ballot has also failed.
President Vjosa Osmani has stated that if the Assembly of Kosovo is not constituted by July 26th — a deadline set by the Constitutional Court — there must be legal consequences for the MPs.
She emphasized that a case is being prepared for constitutional interpretation of the political crisis. If the institutions are not formed during this weekend, the matter will be referred to the country’s highest judicial authority at the beginning of next week, reports KosovaPress.
