Preparations for the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” are entering a key phase, positioning them as one of Kosovo’s largest state and sporting projects. With a focus on the development of sport, infrastructure, and the country’s international image, the process is being supported by government institutions, national sports structures, and international partners.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo emphasized the strategic importance of the Mediterranean Games as a state development project and underlined the government’s role in ensuring interinstitutional cooperation and long-term support for their successful organization.
“The Mediterranean Games, ‘Prishtina 2030,’ are a state development project that require cooperation and commitment from all of us without distinction. Preparing for them is a serious interinstitutional and intersectoral engagement. Therefore, the government will continue to be a strong partner in this process, providing sustainable support for their successful realization,” Kurti emphasized.
The President of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Ismet Krasniqi, highlighted 2025 as a decisive year for preparations, stressing the concrete institutional steps and broad cooperation being undertaken to make Kosovo a dignified host of this historic event.
“A special chapter of 2025 is dedicated to the preparation of the Mediterranean Games ‘Prishtina 2030.’ Alongside the establishment of the Temporary Organizing Committee, we have also hosted visits from the Coordination Commission for the Mediterranean Games, which represent concrete and important steps toward organizing this historic event for our country. The intensive work and close cooperation with all relevant stakeholders demonstrate our seriousness and readiness to represent Kosovo with dignity as a host country,” Krasniqi stated.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG), Iakovos Filippousis, praised the preparations so far and described the 21st edition of the Mediterranean Games as an extraordinary opportunity for Kosovo’s sporting, infrastructural, and institutional development.
“The leadership of the National Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations deserve our recognition, especially as preparations for ‘Prishtina 2030’ are underway. The 21st edition of the Mediterranean Games represents an extraordinary opportunity for Prishtina and Kosovo, for the state and its capital — not only on the field of play, where nations will compete at the highest levels in 28 sports, but also in terms of building modern and sustainable infrastructure. These opportunities will strengthen athletes’ preparations, support long-term developments in sport, and raise performance standards for the years ahead,” Filippousis said.
The Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” are expected to mark a turning point for sport and urban development in Kosovo. Beyond the competitions, the event aims to leave a sustainable infrastructural legacy, enhance the organizational capacities of local institutions, and strengthen Kosovo’s position on the international stage. Cooperation between the government, the Olympic movement, and international bodies remains key to turning this vision into reality.
