Kosovo Olympic Committee launches Olympic Week, with sport and children at the center of activities

Kosovo Olympic Committee (KOK) has launched the organization of the 2026 Olympic Week, which will be marked by a series of sports and promotional activities across the country.

The Olympic Week will begin on June 1 and run until June 6. As part of the program, various activities will be held aimed at promoting sport, Olympic values, and an active lifestyle.

During a press conference, sports and municipal leaders presented details of the event, which officially began on International Children’s Day.

KOK President Ismet Krasniqi stressed that the main focus remains on children and the mass participation in sports. He said that around 26 municipalities across the country are involved in the initiative, with the clear aim of building a more active and healthy society by encouraging young people to engage in physical activity.

“I thank all municipalities of Kosovo, because around 26 municipalities across Kosovo are participating in this activity, and surely all children of Kosovo will have the opportunity to take part in these activities during Olympic Week. The main day of this week is June 4, when there will be an even bigger activity in Prishtina, where children aged 6 and 7 from all over Kosovo will take part in a joint run,” Krasniqi said.

Prishtina Mayor Përparim Rama also attended the opening ceremony, linking the event with the intensive preparations the capital is making as host of the 2030 Mediterranean Games. Rama highlighted that investments in sports infrastructure are continuously accelerating, with the aim of transforming Prishtina into a regional and broader sports hub.

“You know that the capital now has a special focus on sports because we are in the process of preparing for the 2030 Mediterranean Games, where Prishtina is the host. Therefore, we have accelerated the development of sports spaces in cooperation with the Olympic Committee, various federations, and the Ministry of Sports. I am happy that we are here together and pushing processes forward for the benefit of our youth. We remain committed to further investments,” Rama said.

Meanwhile, Halil Sylejmani, head of the Organizing Committee and the Athletics Federation, revealed a major highlight: on June 4, more than 1,000 students aged 6 and 7 will take over the center of Prishtina for a mass run, turning the capital into a true “festival” of sport and youth.

“We chose this date because of children’s events. We have worked very well in cooperation with many municipalities and federations. The children’s run will take place on June 4, where over 1,000 children aged 6–7 will be in the center. We will truly make it a festival, because Kosovo has not had such an Olympic Committee event for many years,” Sylejmani said.

Activities of Olympic Week will continue with presentations of various sports in Prishtina’s main squares, where citizens and children will have the opportunity to get acquainted with different sporting disciplines and take their first steps toward an active lifestyle.
