S.A. accused of war crimes against Albanian civilians during the war

The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has filed an indictment against S.A. for the criminal offense of “War crimes against the civilian population,” in connection with events during the 1998–1999 war.

According to the indictment, S.A. is accused of having, on April 30, 1999, in the village of Llashtica in the municipality of Gjilan, jointly with members of Serbian police, paramilitary, and military forces, participated in the killing of 13 Albanian civilians and the wounding of four other persons.

The Prosecution assesses that there is well-grounded suspicion that the defendant was directly involved in the execution of civilians during this operation.

Since S.A. is unreachable for the justice authorities, the Special Prosecution, based on the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, has proposed to the Basic Court in Pristina that the trial be held in absentia.
