Where leaders and employees of the Municipality of Prishtina have gathered, the city’s youngest residents are there as well. Children came to the park in the Dardania neighborhood to plant flowers alongside adults.
To mark World Environment Day, the Directorate of Parks and Environment in Prishtina organized an event featuring activities for pupils from the primary schools “Dardania,” “Xhemajl Mustafa,” and “Hasan Prishtina,” aiming to remind them of the sense of responsibility they have toward the environment in which they live.
Director of Parks, Fatime Hajdari, explained the activities.
“We want to make children part of the process of care and responsibility, which they also have as citizens of this city. One of the activities involves the drawings they created, showing how they would like to see parks and the spaces where they play. Another activity is planting flowers in the park, and a third activity focuses on caring for playground equipment, where through painting they can show how they too can contribute to taking care of the city,” Hajdari said.
Student Elena Gjonbalaj transferred a landscape from her imagination onto a canvas, depicting the kind of environment she would like to see in her everyday life.
“I came to present my artwork. I created, from my imagination, a park that I wanted others to see as well.”
The painting features flowers, greenery, and benches for people who would like to enjoy the view of the park and relax.
Elena said that she likes to see an environment that is “clean and green.”
The Director of Parks pledged that events such as this, organized by the directorate, “will not be lacking” and will also be held in other neighborhoods across the city.
