President Vjosa Osmani has described as a development of historic importance for Kosovo the invitation from US President Donald Trump for Kosovo to join the Gaza Peace Board, KosovaPress reports.
Osmani said that Kosovo has received the invitation as a founding member and that it will offer its experience in state-building.
She said that Kosovo’s inclusion in this US-led multilateral organization strengthens the country internationally.
“This is a development of historic importance for the Republic of Kosovo. First of all, because this is an international organization, it is Kosovo’s membership in an international organization, and specifically as one of the founding members of this organization. Secondly, because this organization is being established by the United States of America, our strategic ally, and thirdly because the US has selected Kosovo precisely among several states to be founding members, taking into account Kosovo’s experience in state-building. In peacebuilding, in building alliances—experience that can help in building peace in other parts of the world as well. With great pride, I have accepted this personal invitation from President Trump. I thank him for the appreciation, the trust, and the willingness, as he emphasizes in the letter, to work together for a long time to realize the mission for peace and security in the world. We as Kosovo, even though we are a small state, can make a significant contribution to achieving these goals. I am working closely with the White House so that our contribution is concrete and meaningful,” she said.
The head of state said that the invitation she received and the accompanying documentation do not mention the issue of any payment, but leave it to member states to do so on a voluntary basis.
“Even in the accompanying documentation, no issue of payment is mentioned, but states are left to do this on a voluntary basis. However, on all issues we are in coordination with the United States. Kosovo’s contribution will be meaningful due to our experience in peacebuilding. Kosovo is one of the greatest American successes—one of the greatest successes of the Euro-Atlantic alliance in building peace. We have something to offer in terms of experience, perspective, and vision for such an initiative. It is important that Kosovo will be equal and has been invited by the founder and leader of this organization, the United States of America. This is an achievement in strengthening our international position and our alliance with the US,” she added.
Osmani made these comments after the commemorative academy marking the 20th anniversary of the death of the historic president, Ibrahim Rugova.
The Peace Board is an international mechanism envisaged in a UN Security Council resolution in November 2025, aimed at overseeing the temporary administration of Gaza and the reconstruction of civilian institutions.
Alongside Kosovo, Albania has also received an invitation.
