In honor of the 14th anniversary of the fall of Hero Enver Zymberi and the Memorial Day of police officers who died in the line of duty, the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, together with several acting ministers, paid tribute at the Memorial of Fallen Police Officers.
On this occasion, Kurti said that today honors were paid at the memorial of fallen police officers who died in the line of duty—24 in total in post-war Kosovo, from Lazim Rexhepi in 2001 to Muhamet Lika in 2025.
Speaking about the heroic fall of Enver Zymberi and Afrim Bunjaku, Kurti said they gave their lives defending state sovereignty, territorial integrity, law and order, peace, and security in the north of the country.
According to Kurti, Memorial Day is closely linked to the fall of Enver Zymberi on July 26, 2011.
Kurti said that this date brings pain and sorrow, but also pride, because the Kosovo Police, with over 10,000 members, continues to serve the Republic of Kosovo.
The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said that the Kosovo Police is a multiethnic force that, although frequently attacked, has always emerged victorious and professional.
He recalled that one of the biggest challenges for its structure occurred in November 2022, when 541 uniformed police officers from the Serbian community collectively resigned.
Nevertheless, Kurti emphasized that the process of return and inclusion has continued, with new cadets from generation to generation joining the Kosovo Police.
Accompanying Kurti at the memorial were the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, the Minister of Culture, Hajrullah Çeku, and the Minister of Education, Arbërie Nagavci.
Tributes were also paid by the General Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, along with other high-ranking members of the Kosovo Police. /Z. Zeneli
