The full publication of the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the formation of the Assembly of Kosovo has been described as a delay by outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti. In a statement to the media, he said that, according to his information, the August 8 ruling contains inconsistencies and that authorities “need to consider what to do.” Nevertheless, he emphasized that he will respect the Constitutional Court’s ruling, reports KosovaPress.
The Constitutional Court published a notice about the ruling on August 8, ordering deputies to constitute the Assembly of Kosovo within 30 days.
The Court stated that the speaker of the Assembly must be elected through an open vote and that voting for the position can occur no more than three times.
“There is no ruling of the Constitutional Court that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo under my leadership has not respected, and there is no ruling of the Constitutional Court that I, as the leader of Vetëvendosje, the largest party in the Assembly, have not respected. But when you ask me again whether I will respect the ruling of the Constitutional Court, it makes me think that it may be unusual, unfair, and unbearable, so perhaps we need to consider what to do,” Kurti said after the opening of the International Seminar on Albanian Language, Literature, and Culture.
Kurti further said that unlike the June 26 ruling, which was published on the same day as the notice, the second ruling has been delayed since August 8, and he does not consider the delay appropriate.
Kurti emphasized that once they read the full text, there will be an assessment of it.
“Unlike June 26, we only have the notice of the Constitutional Court and not the full ruling, which is delayed and whose entirety we still need to read. On June 26, we had both the notice and the ruling on the same day. Now, with August 8, we had the notice, but we still do not have the full ruling. Once we read it, we will give our meritorious evaluation. But it is not good that we have this delay, and based on the notice, in my opinion, there are inconsistencies between this ruling, which we are still waiting for in its full version, and the June 26 ruling of the same Constitutional Court composition,” Kurti said.
Kosovo has entered a political crisis as it has not been able to form new institutions since the parliamentary elections held on February 9.
