Kurti: Kosovo does not need new elections, let us work together for the president

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has spoken for the first time in the Kosovo Assembly following the annulment of President Vjosa Osmani’s decree on the dissolution of the tenth legislature.

Speaking in the Assembly, Kurti said it had been proven that the decree was in contradiction with the Constitution, adding that no president can dissolve the will of the people despite pressure from deadlines or constitutional ambiguities.

According to him, the will of the people cannot be cancelled or dissolved by decrees. He underlined that the country does not need new elections, but cooperation to elect the president.

Kurti also said that Kosovo does not have the luxury of delays and old blockades, and that institutions must work together to overcome the current deadlock regarding the presidency.

“Today we do not have the luxury of delay or blockades, and we do not need new elections as an escape from the responsibility that belongs to us. Kosovo’s legitimate institutions, with their recently expressed will, must be allowed to work. There have been enough elections and re-elections; now we need to work together as much as possible and not have new blockades that prevent the old year from being left behind. Blockades, traps, and obstacles are not a mindset of development, but of stagnation. It is time to move forward and to be at the top of our duties,” he said.

He also spoke about the need to approve the draft law on the Agency for the confiscation of unjustified wealth.

Meanwhile, he underlined the need to approve the price cap draft law, saying that some traders and large businesses have exploited crises to artificially increase prices.
