Kosovo Energy Corporation shuts down Unit A4, this is the reason

The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) announced that Unit A4 of the “Kosova A” power plant has been shut down in a controlled manner due to water leakage in the boiler, specifically in the superheater area.

According to KEK, the shutdown of the unit was assessed as necessary by professional staff, in line with technical and safety standards, in order to prevent more serious and unforeseen damage to the equipment.

“This intervention was carried out to preserve the technical integrity of the unit and operational safety,” the statement said.

KEK also stated that, thanks to cooperation with the Albanian Power Corporation (KESH), a significant portion of the missing capacity has been secured through electricity exchange until the unit returns to operation.

Meanwhile, regarding reports that only one out of five units is currently operational, KEK clarified that three other units – B1, B2, and A5 – are under scheduled maintenance and undergoing rehabilitation and modernization, in accordance with the Annual Energy Balance.

According to the corporation, these interventions are planned and aim to increase the reliability and long-term performance of production capacities.

KEK further stated that professional teams are fully on standby and, after the unit cools down, the exact source of the leakage will be identified in order to immediately begin repair works and return Unit A4 to operation as soon as possible.
