For personal reasons, the prosecutor of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Prishtina, Jeton Koca, has resigned from his position as state prosecutor.
This was announced at an extraordinary meeting of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) held today (Monday).
The Chair of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, Arian Gashi, said that they received this notification on February 13 and noted that the reasons for Koca’s resignation are personal and that he did not wish to make them public.
“In his notification, Koca stated that the reasons for this resignation are personal in nature and that he will not make them public in this document,” Gashi reported.
The resignation decision of prosecutor Jeton Koca was called incorrect by KPC member Elza Bajrami-Kastrati.
According to her, deadlines should be established in the future to avoid such situations.
“Undoubtedly, it is the personal right of anyone to decide to resign or stay in a job, but I think that especially cases like this, when someone resigns after just one year in their first term—a period in which the Council and the Academy of Justice have invested—this is not correct… The work of a state prosecutor is not just a job, it is not a privilege with a good salary; it is a position that requires responsibility and great dedication. We cannot enter a competition, be selected, and then resign. For us as a Council, this should serve as a lesson to select in the future individuals who deserve and are worthy of working as prosecutors,” she said.
KPC member Milot Krasniqi called Koca’s resignation “unfortunate news.” According to him, the prosecutorial system needs more prosecutors.
“Processes must continue, and I hope such cases will be fewer because we truly need more prosecutors, to increase the number of prosecutors, and recruit prosecutors in all offices, especially in the Prishtina Prosecutor’s Office. This is not good news,” he emphasized.
At the extraordinary KPC meeting held today behind closed doors, the establishment of Investigation Panel AD.nr.04/2026 was discussed regarding a prosecutor in the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Prishtina, which, according to KPC Chair Arian Gashi, is also the reason this meeting was called.
During today’s KPC meeting, the resignation of the Deputy Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Prishtina, Elza Bajrami-Kastrati, was also addressed. She has served as a KPC member since February 6.
The Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Agron Qelaj, did not attend today’s KPC meeting due to being on an official trip.
