The European Union plans to invite senior representatives of Kosovo and Serbia to a high-level meeting as soon as conditions allow.
One condition set by Brussels for this meeting is that neither of the invited parties should set conditions for participation in the event.
“The High Representative of the EU will convene a high-level dialogue meeting between Kosovo and Serbia as soon as circumstances allow, and we expect leaders from both sides to participate without preconditions,” the EU said in a response to KosovaPress.
At this meeting, it is likely that, among other issues, the topic of non-obstruction of Kosovo’s membership in international organizations will also be discussed.
The EU statement on an unconditional high-level meeting came after a request by KosovaPress for comment on statements made by Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric, who recently said that his country had lobbied against Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe during a meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of that organization in Chisinau, Moldova.
“Full implementation of all previous agreements, including the Ohrid Agreement, is a condition for both Kosovo and Serbia to move forward on their European paths,” the EU said in its response to KosovaPress.
Brussels also stressed that “under Article 4 of the Ohrid Agreement, Serbia has agreed not to oppose Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe.”
