At a time when many citizens across Kosovo face delays in diagnosis, the residents of Ferizaj and its surrounding areas enjoy quick and efficient access to radiology services, thanks to investments in the General Hospital of this city. The Radiology Department, equipped with next-generation technology, operates without waiting lists and offers modern services such as CT, digital X-ray, ultrasound, and mammography.
The head of the Radiology Department, Nazim Dauti, told KosovaPress that radiology services for patients suffering from oncological diseases are prioritized, while other services are also performed within a few days.
“In the Radiology Department, there is no waiting list, but rather a schedule of assigned appointments, where patients know the time when their examination will be performed. Urgent patients are treated within the day, within hours, and hospitalized patients receive the service within the same day. Patients with oncological cases are a priority and are served within a very short time depending on the request,” said radiologist Dauti.
At the Radiology Department of the General Hospital in Ferizaj, patients are treated with various diagnostic methods such as X-ray, CT, ultrasound, and mammography.
According to the department head, the most requested examinations are ultrasound and CT, with around 20 performed daily for each method, depending on demands and emergencies.
“At the General Hospital of Ferizaj, the Radiology Department performs conventional X-ray, CT, ultrasound, mammography… The highest demand is usually for ultrasound and CT, with mostly 20 ultrasounds and 20 CT scans done daily, sometimes even more depending on requests and emergency services… Last year, 4,059 CT scans were done… over 13,000 ultrasounds, more than 20,000 X-rays, mammographies vary from month to month; in October we are busiest with around 6-7 per day, while on other days and months the demand is lower. We don’t have a fixed appointment list; patients come according to need and requests based on doctors’ referrals,” he said.
Patients at the Radiology Department receive advanced services thanks to the modern equipment available to the radiologists.
The CT machine is among the most advanced, with 128 slices, delivering accurate and high-quality results.
“The equipment is next-generation; the CT is 128-slice, performing many examinations and is of very high quality. Also, the ultrasound and mammography machines are all digital, digital X-rays as well. Access to devices is very easy now; it is no longer like before when analog X-rays required film development with older methods. Now everything is fully digital,” he emphasized.
The head of the Radiology Department at the General Hospital of Ferizaj, Nazim Dauti, said this hospital provides services not only for Ferizaj residents but also for the surrounding areas of this municipality.
“Now most of the radiology services are performed at the Ferizaj Hospital, not only for the citizens of Ferizaj but also covering areas including Hani i Elezit, Kaçanik, Shtërpcë, Shtime, half of Vitia—if not most—and part of Lipjan,” said the head of the Radiology Department.
