36 teams from 24 European countries will participate in the European Esports Championship, which kicked off today in Pristina. The matches will be held at the “1 Tetori” Sports Hall. Kosovo will not only host this major event but will also be represented by its national team, as reported by KosovaPress.
At the official opening ceremony, the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who addressed the audience in English, emphasized that although this is known globally as a new sport, Kosovo has a long story in this activity, as Kosovar youth began engaging in electronic games in internet cafés many years ago, thus taking the first steps toward professional growth in this sport.
Kurti also called on all fans and practitioners of electronic games—Esports—to wholeheartedly support Kosovo’s representative team in this competition from today until July 13.
Altin Preniqi, President of the Esports Federation in Kosovo, said that the organization of this European Championship is a historic moment for Kosovo because this sport brings great energy and, above all, billions of online viewers from around the world, thus becoming a rare opportunity to promote the image of the Republic of Kosovo across the globe.
This championship is organized by the Esports Federation of Kosovo with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The first match will be held today between the Republic of Kosovo and the Czech Republic. /KosovaPress
