Counterfeit money: Bank hands over hundreds of euros to Kosovo Police

Kosovo Police have launched an investigation into a suspected money counterfeiting case after €782 believed to be fake was handed over in Prizren.

According to the police’s 24-hour report, the case was reported on Ekrem Rexha Street, where a bank official submitted €782 to the police station on July 8, suspected to consist of counterfeit banknotes and coins.

The amount included two €200 banknotes, three €50 banknotes, two €20 banknotes, one €10 banknote, 80 €2 coins, and 22 €1 coins.

“The male Kosovo citizen complainant, a bank official, on 08.07.2026 brought €782 to the station (two €200 banknotes, three €50 banknotes, two €20 banknotes, one €10 banknote, eighty €2 coins, twenty-two €1 coins), which according to the complainant are counterfeit. The money was seized, a case was initiated in consultation with the prosecutor, and the matter remains under investigation,” the police report states.

Upon the prosecutor’s decision, the money was seized, a case was initiated for the criminal offense of “Counterfeiting money,” and the investigation is ongoing.
