The platform “Freedom Has a Name” is holding a press conference where local professors are presenting violations they say are occurring in the Special Court process in The Hague.
Professor of constitutional law, Arsim Bajrami, presented the study ’30 Violations of the Special Court.’
He stated there is a tendency to create a false narrative by leaving aside the genocide committed in Kosovo.
“The Special Court is an open attempt, through this completely fabricated process, to distort the truth about modern history, primarily and exclusively to misinterpret the Kosovo liberation war, the war of the Kosovo people for self-defense, liberation from Serbian rule, from the Serbian state genocide,” he said.
Bajrami said the Special Court is violating the rights of the parties. He said that keeping detainees in custody amounts to hostage status.
“The Special Court has denied any cooperation with Kosovo authorities; moreover, it has admitted to cooperating with the Serbian Special Prosecution. We have failed to provide legal and financial assistance. It should have mobilized analyses and scientific papers to defend the liberation war. We have failed to raise awareness in the international community,” he emphasized.
Also, professor of criminal law, Ismet Salihu, said that the indictments against former KLA leaders have serious consequences for the country.
“Members of the KLA during the war did not commit crimes against Serbs or members of other nationalities. Meanwhile, military and police forces acted oppositely. For all these crimes, a small number have been punished, while the crimes number is in the thousands. For four years, one of the founders of the KLA has been undergoing a trial,” he stated.
