Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has called on all persons who were sexually abused during the last war to apply for recognition of their status.
During a visit to the Association of the League and Civil Victims of Kosovo, she said she will also meet with women survivors of sexual violence to be informed about their developments, needs, and the challenges they face.
“During that meeting you will be informed about the challenges they face, whether health-related or challenges related to applications to the Commission for the recognition of the status of victims of sexual violence. Allow me to call on all persons who were sexually abused during the last war to apply for recognition of their status. As you know, there are four licensed organizations that provide assistance to survivors of sexual violence.”
On the other hand, the director of the association, Mustafë Prengu, said that more than 900 women are engaged in training within the organization he leads, while over 400 cases involve women who experienced sexual violence during the war.
He also announced a memorandum of cooperation with the presidency to support these categories.
“In this center we have over 900 women undergoing training, and over 400 are cases of those who experienced sexual violence during the last war. I am very proud that someone comes to visit us and understands the problems and concerns of organizations born out of the war… Cases of wartime sexual violence face many problems, including health and family issues. We spoke with the president and we will sign a memorandum to support these categories,” he said.
After the meeting, Haxhiu said she will meet with the mayor of Fushë Kosovë, Valon Prebreza.
