The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), of which KosovaPress News Agency is a member, today marks its founding day, recalling its creation on August 26, 1956, and reaffirming its commitment to defending editorial independence, professional solidarity, and strengthening reliable journalism in Europe.
In a statement from the EANA Board, on the 69th anniversary of its founding, it is emphasized that even after nearly seven decades, the Alliance continues to remain a key pillar for the dissemination of accurate and impartial information, in a time marked by disinformation, political pressures, and technological transformations.
“As EANA approaches its 70th anniversary, EANA faces numerous challenges: multifaceted attacks on the journalism profession, the defense of facts in an era of polarization and massive disinformation, as well as financial pressures on the media. Sharing and cooperation, which lie at the heart of the spirit that guided the founding of EANA, are more relevant than ever,” said Fabrice Fries, President of EANA and President of AFP.
EANA stands as a “pillar of editorial independence and professional solidarity,” defending journalism in a time of uncertainty, emphasized Claudia Nicolae, member of the EANA Board and Director General of AGERPRES.
Meanwhile, Stefano de Alessandri, CEO of ANSA, underlined that the values of cooperation, integrity, and editorial independence are the foundation of trust in journalism. Along the same lines, Patrick Lacroix, CEO of Belga, said that news agencies remain a cornerstone of democratic societies — providing facts, context, and trust.”
EANA Secretary General, Alexandru Giboi, recalled the importance of unity among agencies.
“In a world that too often shifts towards noise and uncertainty, news agencies have to deliver facts. Year after year, EANA proves the resilience and relevance of agency journalism,” he said. The EANA Board stressed that the Alliance’s strength lies not only in its history, but in its members’ enduring spirit of collaboration and their dedication to truth, ensuring a sustainable future for professional journalism in Europe and beyond.
