The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has welcomed the decree and, as he said, the stance of the President Vjosa Osmani on dissolving the Assembly and calling new early elections on Friday.

Following the failure to elect a new president, Abdixhiku said that elections were never the preferred option of the LDK.

“LDK appreciates the responsibility and constitutional clarity shown in this decision by her, in defense of the constitutional order and the normal functioning of the institutions of the Republic… Elections were never the preferred alternative for the LDK. On the contrary, they were completely unnecessary and easily avoidable. Unfortunately, the appetite for a one-party capture of all state positions prevented any possible compromise. Now the decision belongs to the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. In a democracy, the final word always belongs to the sovereign,” he wrote on the social network Facebook, KosovaPress reports.

Abdixhiku added that they are ready to take part in consultations to determine the date of the new elections.

“In this spirit, we are ready to participate in consultations to set the election date and to address citizens for a new democratic solution,” he said.
