The Embassy of Kosovo in The Hague has published on social media a documentary about the advisory opinion, according to which the declaration of Kosovo’s independence did not violate international law, as reported by KosovaPress.

With ten votes in favor and four against, the members of the International Court of Justice in The Hague on July 22, 2010, ruled in favor of Kosovo, thereby rejecting Serbia’s claim of a violation of international law.

On July 22, 2010, the ICJ concluded that Kosovo’s declaration of independence did not violate international law.

The Court emphasized that “international law contains no prohibition on declarations of independence.”

“The Court concluded that the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on February 17, 2008, did not violate general international law, Security Council Resolution 1244, or the constitutional framework,” the judicial panel declared.

Fifteen years later, this documentary returned to The Hague to reflect on this legal moment, which is considered significant.

“A moment that not only shaped Kosovo’s path but also enriched the global discussion on self-determination and international law,” the embassy states in the documentary published on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the decision.
